Maintaining tank with weekly water changes and Kalkwasser top off

Is anybody out there in Reeftum maintaining their tanks with just weekly water changes and topping off evaporated water with Kalkwasser.
Please share your experience.

That is what we do on our 210 with the exception that occassionally will need to adjust MG or CA but that is pretty rare. We also have had to add vinegar the past year (as CA demand increased) to the kalk top off water to increase the saturation. We have a mixed reef with some pretty good sized SPS colonies & 4 clams so the CA demand is pretty high.

I add a little two-part but the kalk top off (with a little vinegar) does most of the job.

You mean people still do water changes? I thought everybody was just stripping the nutrients via gfo or carbon.

Kalk and water changes here. I add some alk every now and then when the levels drop.

I am going to stick with the weekly water change 10 gallons, with the Kalk top and the once a week dose of 2 part calcium buffer. The tank has responded very well to this change!

I tried for a while when I first setup my tank. My evaporation was to inconsistent which caused to many fluctuations.

I am doing 20% water change weekly and have kalk dosed on my auto top off. I have to add buffer sometimes. My Ca holds steady around 460.

That's pretty much how I've maintained my tank for over a decade now. Like several others here, I've occasionally had to supplement the Ca and/or Alk of my make up water to match the parameters of the tank but otherwise that's about it.

And in regards to water changes, I'm amused that its importance is still even being discussed.

Yep thats is all I do. I hardly even test any more. SPS growth and colors have improved since putting the tank on auto pilot.

I tried just using kalk but the alk dropped way to fast for the kalk to maintain it.

I don't use kalk. Just use dosers for ca and alk. Very happy so far.

Yep. Kalk is also balanced so it will replace ca and alk in the same ratios as corals use it up. If you are having alk drop then it is precipitating.

All of my top off water is kalk. 3 to 6 gallons a day.
Helps levels, but doesn't come close to keeping up with demand.
Still run a Ca reactor along with it.
