majano anemones

Has anyone had experience with joe's juice or any of the other aptasia
removers, trying to deal with majano anemones.

I used it before all my pep shrimps got eaten by the coral banded... works well if you dont have the peppermints.....

I use a paste that I make with Kalk powder and hot RO water. Then use a syringe to slowly inject into the problem areas.

Be careful not to squirt too much or drip on any of your corals, it will burn them.

Joes Juice has worked well in the past for me and aptasia although I have heard mixed results

I use aiptasia control(by Blue Life) to keep aiptasia population in check and also for any majanos. I have had sucess by cutting off all powerheads,return pump,anything causing water movement to allow the "juice" to set on the anenome for 2-3 hours. With the aips you just squirt the juice GENTLY on tentacles and they pull it in thinking it's food so they ingest it. With the majanos I completely cover them in the juice and let it sit there. Majanos are pretty easy to remove if you can get to the base good with a knife,screwdriver,etc. and physically remove them. They don't seem to be as messy as the aips when doing it this way.

x2 what wayne said. Also if you don't like putting any chemicals in your tank this will work with majanos only. Place a shell or a rock to cover them and they will climb on that shell or rock to get to the light, then remove the item and place in boiling water. Jorge you said that you have a few. IMO I would take out any lps ang get a butterfly. Like a Raccoon, Falcula or Vagabond Butterfly and watch them do their work. Then remove the butterfly and place the lps back. just a thought.

2-3 HOURS??? Do you have fish? I've heard of people losing fish after just 1 hour of no water circulation!

I leave the pumps off for 20-30 minutes when I do treat, then syphon out the remains.

yes, I have fish. They don't seem to be bothered by it. My purple and blue hippo are going on 9 years in January

There are other problems if you loose fish with no flow after 2-3 hrs. I had lost pwer at the house one time for 8 hrs and I didn't loose a thing.

I dont think that i have ever turned anything off while using JJ, and everything in my tank is still fine......

If you catch 'em early (which is when you want to get them), Joe's Juice works fine, and I have just had to turn off the main flow for a few minutes.

it seems if I leave the flow on or cut flow back on too soon it just blows the juice off the aip/majano and they just spring right back. So I started cutting the flow off and letting it just sit and do it's work for a few hours.

There are nudis that eat these guys and expire after consumed. Similar to berghias for aptasia control.

Interesting article, I ran across a similar article and if the butterfly fish I ordered don't get the job done I may have to shell out some cash and get some of these guys. Pretty expensive for a 90 with an infestation.

thanks for the input folks, with the numbers I have this is going to take a while and some effort. I have determined cooking the rock will be a last resort only as it is nice rock and there are some corals attached.

I think that you will be happy with the job that the butterfly fish do. What did you go with after?

1 threadfin, 1 double saddle, and 1 longnose. Just hope they get along with each other and don't mess with the open brains. moved all other LPS to the other tanks. I will continue removing some manually, but have hundreds to deal with.

my other worry is the large bubble tip hosting the clowns, but it is anchored to a large rock that is loaded with the majanos

Is it a green bubble, if so I can get you one to replace yours if they take a liking to bta for free. Not sure about placing different in the same tank. Keep us posted on how they do.
