Majestic Angel vs Regal Angel

Which one do you think is : Nicer- I love the look of both fish, pretty much a toss up for me.

Hardier- hands down majestic.

More Reef-Safe- probably regal, but both can be successful in an SPS reef.

Does better in a 90g SPS reef- this tank is on the smallish side for either but especially for the majestic which get larger than the regal.

In terms of hardiness IME I think they are really close. The Majestic can be just as delicate as the regal. i guess it all depends on collection, handling and location. I think the regal angel is slightly less risky, but overall they are about the same.
Which one is prettier is a tough question to answer! I would have to say the regal... no... umm I mean the majestic... no umm...............

i like the regal much, much more. as for hardiness, i've never had a majestic but i think it really depends on if it's eating in the beginning or not. for being reef safe...depends on what you're keeping....my regal hasnt touched a thing. it's my flagfin that's the devil.

CHOOSE REGAL!!!!!, majestic is a boring fish

I've kept both in a reef aquarium. IME, the majestic was hardier and adapted much easier. It was eating prepared food in the LFS. However, it was more destructive in my reef and had to be removed. In addition to SPS and LPS, it was even bothering mushrooms! I know some people have had success with them in reefs.

The Red Sea regal took over two months before it would eat prepared foods. But once it acclimated it was very hardy and ate everything I offered. I recently lost it after over 5 years in my care. It only bothered my Zoanthids.

Overall, majestics adapt more easily but are a little riskier in a reef than Red Sea regals. But you can be successful with either if you get a good specimen to begin with.

I personally think RS regals are more striking but both are beautiful fish.

I've had some decent success with Majestics. It was wiped out in The Plague though...I currently have another one in quarantine, so I'm sure this one will end up eating everything :-(

Oh yeah, the questions...Nicer...tossup. Hardier...Majestic. More reef safe...tossup. I've heard just as many reef success stories with Majestics as Regals. There was even an article about that very thing in one of the online reefer mags...I forget which one.

my majestic was very durable..very good eater and behaved in the reef. BUT..this fish was a bit to skittish for my liking.
based on that trait..i would not get one again,,i ended up selling the fish for a bolder asfur angel.

I didn't notice it was a 90. I would be hesitant to try either of them in a 90 to be honest with you. Just seems a little too small for either one of these fish once they are full grown.

I have decided on the majestic. Any info on this species would be apreciated. Also please tell me your experiences with majestic angels in reef tanks, i am very worried it will tear appart my LPS/SPS REEF.

thank you

For both the Majestic I had previously and the one I currently have in QT, the best thing I've found to get them to eat was sheets of nori , same stuff that tangs go nuts for. In fact, the previous one would shoulder up right along side my tangs and eat...I was surprised, I wasn't execting that kind of boldness.

I have a 5" Majestic in my tank. He is a beautiful fish however I can keep no sps in there. He leaves LPS and softies alone but will tear any acro apart. He leaves montis alone though. He eats out of my hand. I'll hold a frozen ball of PE Mysis in my hand in front of a vortech pump and he's the only fish that comes to my hand and eats the mysis before it blows away. he also eats Nori right next to my purple tang and the purple tang runs the tank. Great fish. Good luck with it. I hope your tank is established with a lot of live rock.
