Make your own Luxeon Star Led spot lights / moon lights

After looking at numerous Luxeon Led's ( They require a heat sink so it says . ) and then leading on to look at pictures of "custom light sabers" .. I was curious if anyone had used Luxeons or an led similar to make their own moon lights or "Spot lighting" for their tank.

Doesnt seem to terribly diffacult to do and a single led sure puts out a lot of light . Assuming I know what "lense" to get on the LED ( different viewing widths ) And which model :/

Anyway has anyone here attempted to do this?

Here is a neat link I found with pictures on someone who did their own diy.

The 3W CREE XLEDs I get come presoldered to a "star" heatsink:

here is one of them mounted in the acrylic dome.
I just glued the star onto a piece of acrylic with epoxy.

I use a 750mA constant current power supply to run 2 of them in series

Here is a pic of the tank lit by nothing but 2X3W LEDs at 750mA ea.

I have a dimmer built for them so I will be able to simulate moon cycles, but havent hooked that up yet.

will you manually have to simulate moon cycle, or will it be set to weekly increments?_ as for how i want to do it is set like 1 or 2 LED's that arn't bright for the lowest light, then gradually increase to a full moon which will be like 7-8 or something like that._ Really i haven't planned as much into this as i've just started thinking about it for 3 days, and new reefers had alot more experience in moonlighting effects than terrarium and viv' people.
