making a overflow??

ok I would like get some ideas on how people who have drilled there own tanks made there overflow. I drilled my 150 by myself and made the overflow although it makes noise. It wasn't designed and planned properly and now it is kinda too late. It doesnt slurp all the time although occasionally it will make a loud slurp. Also when the water enters into the sump it makes a loud splashing sound.

I am now going to be starting a 50 gallon reef and I want to drill and make my overflow basket and sump and the whole deal. Although I want some examples of people who have theirs running with almost no sound at all

There are ways to completely quiet a noisy overflow. Have you got a schematic of your system that you can post? You may just need a Durso for your overflow that will quiet it completely and quieting the outlet into the sump from the overflow is also something that usually is not too difficult to do.

well currently the tank is in the planning stages. The 150 gallon I don't mind it that much and I will just leave it. Its the 50 gallon that I am worried about because it will be in my bedroom.

I am going to have it drilled on the back right. Probably three 1.5" holes. Two for draining into the sump and one for the return. Or I may only put two and just have the return pipe going up and over the tank into the water, to prevent splashing. I will make sure my sump can hold the extra water from the back suction.

I know how to drill the holes although I want to know the best way to set up the bulkheads and drain pipes so they don't make noise, and how to stop making noise in the actual sump. All I want to hear is the humming of the pump LOL
