Making Live Rock..

Has anyone tried creating some live rock to supplement your existing rocks? If so, what was your method and results?

I just put some lace rock in me fuge or in the tank and let nature take over. You can get lace rock at Seascape or you can order it out of Utah Rock and tell them what you want I dont have the number any more

Caleb - just the type of info I was looking for

lfduty - Is the lace rock the lava rock look alike that Seascape has in the box across from the counter? Doesn't it have minerals in it that might cause some problems?
 
Yes but you will not have any problems with the rock i have it in me daughter's tank and never hd eney problems with it
 
I have a bunch of Utah lace rock also, theres nothing at all wrong with it. It makes a great base rock and its usually really cheap.
 
I also have a lot of lace rock in my tank. I bought 100lbs of live rock and then supplemented with lace rock. It is interesting because the coraline algae that grows on the lace rock is both pink and dark red but there is very little of the dark red variety on the original live rock.
 
There is also “Limestone” which is used by most public aquariums as base rock, A little harder to find around here but not impossible. Some LFS carry small amounts also try local sand and gravel companies like Pioneer, C & C Sands and Rocky Mountain Materials. Or make your own “ARAGOCRETE” check garf.org

I started my tank with macro rocks on ebay and then seeded the tank with real live rock, taste great less filling. Less costly than than the all live option. The garf link is the bomb for creating your own. Long wait and cure time though.
 
I got a do it yourself live rock recipe and im going to make me some rock anyone want to get in on this with me

Marco rock typo, I am too impatient to wait the curing process out.
Ifduty: how long for the curing and does it use concrete?
 
24 hr or he will put in the oven on 350 to 450 for 20min I seen him do it be for and no concrete like you think
 
it will have crushed oyster shell portland cement type 1 and aragonite sand and then i will put in the oven of 350 for 30min

Are you making rock or baking a cake.
Will that cure out all the lime, amonia, etc that's in the concrete.
without dipping or anything? Wholly Molly...........
