Making QT tank... questions.

Well, I am going to run 2 20gal bins with a 400GPH canister filter/carbon, a few 200GPH powerheads. I just had a ich out break and ive lost fish for the last time, so I am going to run them in copper for 2 weeks, then put them into 10gal glass tanks for 4 more weeks then back into the main tank. 6 weeks with no fish in display :(

I gotta do this fast, ide say my fox face has a week until his body is covered. Should I use a sand bed or, bare bottom? *it will be un cycled,* should I use tank water to help cycle it?? I will put a little 23watt light over it so the fish can see.

Is it okay the I use clean bins, or must I use glass?

what els should I do?

Any tips or tricks will help!

thanks!

do not put any live rock or sand or anything like that on the QT. It just gives breeding grounds for what you will treat for. I would throw a small wattage light for the fish..as you aready have. Put some pieces of pvc for the fish to hide in to reduce stress. you can use bins, the larger the better to reduce stress. If you put the foxface in a 10 gallon it will stress to death. as for the cycle, there wont be one because there will be no bacteria to get it going. Keep the water as cleas as possible, remove excess food and poop the keep the clarity up. If you treat copper and equipment that you use might absorb the chemical so do not use it on future applications as it may leach copper and kill inverts. (so ive heard). hope this helps.

thanks alot! i will be treating him asap! is 2 weeks in copper long enough? and 4 weeks in copperless QT? is 6 total weeks long enough for all the ich to die in the main tank?

Six weeks is long enough to allow your main display to be rid of ich. IMO I would treat the QT for six weeks as well. Just to be sure that the ich dies off.
