Making water for top off, question...

I made a gallon of water to top of my sump, and added a half cup of oceanic salt and started to mix it with a maxi-jet...then it occurred to me, for such an infinitessimally small amount of water, is it even necessary to add salt and aerate?

I know for larger amounts of water it is necessary to mix with a pump for 24 hours and, since I've already started with my one gallon, how long should I mix before adding to the sump?

tope off water is water from your RO/di.

there is no salt needed.

evaporation is always fresh water....when you take the water out, then you have to add saltwater back in.

To me Top-off water is generally always ro/di water every once in a while because of the salt creep I may need to add a touch of more salt, but not until water has been tested

Top off is usually just RO/DI. For changes then you will want to mix salt. If you are unsure where you are at, just check the salinity of your water. If it is high, use RO, if low, add salt to your mix.

This is true......

there is no need to let it set just add it in and give it 20-30 min to cycle through your tank then check you salt level if its low add more and repeat process
