Malalchite green with prazi

Need quick advice.... Just started a rt tamarin wrasse in qt. Fully established qt with sand bed. Day 2, today, i notice some white rot on front of dorsal fin, & frayed pecs. I began malalchite green thinking it has some kind of fungus. Tonight I see it is pooping a long stringy white poo. I know that is a sign of intestinal worm. So now do I keep going w the malalchite or stop & go with prazi? Or can I go with both? I know the rules of thumb is dont mix.

On a side note, he has not eaten yet. I tried cyclopeez, 2 diff live pods, brine, mysis, squid, shrimp, krill, pellets, & reef chili in desperation. Best I got was a short chase of a big pod a few times.

He has not buried himself yet that I know of, & mostly swims after his reflection in the glass. No real signs of hunting yet. Not looking promising but I'm not gonna give up.

The mfg of PP says using other meds with the PP makes it less effective. I don't like to mix meds unless absolutly necessary. Fungus is quite rare in fish and usually a secondary infection. Fungus is cottony or fuzzy. IMO & IME, mant suspected fungal infections are bacterial. Unless you think the problem is life-threating, I'd just treat the worms. The fin problem will probably clear up with pristine water and a good diet...and some time. Obviously, if it gets worse, I'd treat. I wouldn't use Mal. green, but a combination fungal/antibiotic. You could also use API Quick Cure; a combination wormer and antibiotic. I think your food offerings are fine; if this fish won't eat cyclops-eeze; I don't think it will eat anything. If he's big enough, maybe live brine shrimp. How long has he gone without eating?

He is about 3.5 inches. Also I left out most likely a key piece of info. His lips seem swollen. Not cottony, but swollen like he can't close his mouth. The problem on the dorsal fin is cottony. Like two cottony lumps on the very front of the dorsal fin. I'll try to get a good pic in the morning.

He arrived at the LFS Monday. I got him on Tues. I did see him pick at things on Tuesday but I think it was some tiny (cyclo peez sized) live pods that I dumped in several days prior to his arrival.

I haven't been able to find a LFS selling live brine lately. Maybe I'll try taking a drive this morning to look for some. He didn't show any interest at all in frozen brine though.

I'll start Prazi.

If the lumps have a solid, rather than feathery (gotta be a better description) and a cottage cheese or cauliflower look; it may be lymph, a virus that's basically harmless and goes away with good living conditions. I'm only throwing up another guess because (IME & IMO) fungus is often misdiagnosed.

whatever it was it was a fast killer. Hard to capture in the pic but it looks very cauliflower to me. Also there were 2 green chromis with him. They were fine last night. This morning one dead and one chromis has half tail missing and red ulcer by the missing part. Here's pics. I assume the last chromis will be dead tomorrow based ime with ulcer/fungus/slash crap that is something other than parasitic.

Any advice on what to do with the tank now? I have been using it as an established qt for wrasses with sand and live rock and cheato and caulerpa and pods etc.

And I'd rather not nuke the tank and start over. Possibly something I could treat with before adding fish again.

my fairy wrasse had something similar. was barely alive, mouth was swollen and had a white film on his mouth and top fin. breathing very heavy.

in a last effort to save him i did a Methylene blue dip for 30 minutes in salt water and treated the tank with maracyn plus. within 6 hours he was swimming around and he ate the next day. his mouth has cleared but still some white on his back.

try the blue dip for the chromis. might save him. im 2 for 2 so far. then treat tank with prazi. after 1 week you could treat with maracyn 2 or maracyn plus. not together. last if needed cupramine.

i was thinking it could be brook but it wouldve wiped out the rest of the quarantine tank i would think.

I'll be surprised if the chromis lives til morning since half his tail was gone in one night. He is the last in this qt tank so it pretty much did get wiped I guess. If he is still alive I'll try to get the Methylene blue, I dont have any on hand. I have maracyn plus and two if I can't get the blue.

that wont work. u need the blue. could do a formalin dip also. the blue will help him breathe.

from now on all new fish get a 30 minute meth blue dip in saltwater before the qt.
