Male seahorse just popped out 2 premie fry!

My male H. capensis just popped out 2 premie fry. A very reputable commercial breeder told a friend of mine that they sometimes do that while shifting the brood in their pouches. This is my first brood ever! Sadly, the are not swimming, hitching, or even sitting upright. He had them last night, at about this time, so maybe they will make it. One hiched once, and if I get them airborne, they can swim a little. They still have yolk sacs attached, which assures me that I at least have 2 days or so before the brohers and sisters are born. Phew...stressed!!!!!

I just got a male/female (I think so anyway) pair of ocellaris clowns. I hope to "get my feet wet" in fish breeding (besides seahorses, which I know how to raise them, but i've never done it before). I eventually would like to be able to successfully raise green mandarin fry. I've bene following the thread in the fish breeding forum. IMO though, seahorses seem much easier to raise than clownfish. Clowns need rotifers from day one. Some seahorse species need live bbs from day one, and that's all they need until switching to larger brine shrimp, and then mysis.

How long have you had them? I recently read on a clown forum, increase the food amount, photoperiod, and increase your temperature. I saw someone increased his temperature up past 85*F...hope he didn't have any SPS, huh Ron?



Also, I read that if you have other fish in the tank, it will distract them, and they may not breed.

I've had them since July. They laid a cluch not long after I got them and then a second clutch 21 days after that and haven't since then. They are in a tank alone and conditions haven't changed at all in there.

Have you tried raising the temps, increase feedings, and longer photoperiod? This supposedly simulates summer, and the increase of food makes them think that there will be plenty of food for the babes.

What species do you have, and did you successfully raise any of the first 2 batches?

Both clutches got eaten by them. The first time I spooked them taking pictures of the eggs and the second time a power outtage spooked them. The ones that I have that are breeding are Ocellaris. I have a pair of perculas too that I hope with start when they get old enough.

They get fed plenty and I'm already running a High temp and long photoperiod on them as it is.
