Male Spotted Mandarin

I am looking for a male Spotted Mandrain (Synchiropus picturatus) I have had a female now for about 8 months and she is doing great. Does anyone know where I can find one? One that is in good health and eating?

Thanks,

Hey Warberg, how can u tell the male from female?? Are you looking for one trained to eat fish food or one that just eats amphipods??

Males normally have a long first dorsal fin and I am just looking for one in good general health and actively feeding. Haven't talked to John about it yet, but the last time I was over there I didn't see one, then again I was picking up my custom sump...

It's pretty hard to find males as well. I've talked to Angelsil, who is very informed about mandarins. Yes, indeed the males have a longer top dorsal fin, but sometimes during shipping the fin gets torn off for whatever reason, whether it be stress or bad handling.

Just wanted to give you the heads up, but in yourcase it shouldnt really matter because oyu already ahve a female and if you find a male that is 100% and in no doubt that's its a male then your safe, but if you have a male and you're looking for a female, it can get tricky cause two males will basically kill each other and if the top dorsal fin is torn off, it looks very much like a female

But yes, john has the healthiest fish i've seen so i would take a visit out there. Otherwise all the other stores could be a hit or miss chance that you might find one....

Just a heads up for everyone. Oh i forgot to state me referrences/work cited

Work cited:

Angelsil...:P

I was in Coral Reef the other day. I saw the biggest mandarin I have ever seen. I am not sure if it was male or not though.

If the fin does get torn off do they grow it back eventually? Remeber I am looking for a Spotted Mandarin.
