Malta reefs?

Hi All,

I'm relocating from San Diego to Malta and I was wondering if anyone from FRAG/PROP knows anything about the reef community (or lack thereof) in Malta. I'm also curious about the coral harvesting laws there, and any information about the native species and state of health of the local reef.

Thanks!

I actually Googled Malta, AZ thinking there was some town in the state I never heard of...

OP is referring to Malta the island-nation. OP must have mistaken the name of our Reef Clubs to refer to worldwide frag/prop organizations.

Lol, sorry for the confusion. Yes, the island state. I asked here because I was a member of AZFRAG/PROP for 3 years. It's been a year or two, but I still consider this my reef family.

LOL I didn't know where Malta was either. I saw one thread on another forum where a person claimed that there were no laws for collection in Malta. Seem like there is a lot of traffic and that sort of thing is regulated when it gets transported, but if you live there (Jealous BTW) then I sounds like it is free game. I could not find any laws that even hint to protection of sea life in Malta.

Take some pictures!!!!

P.S. You Bennett Tort lives on and is still strong. I have fragged it and it is thriving in other reef tanks. The original colony has out grown and died long ago.

Thanks, Frick. I hope the reason that they have no laws protecting sea life is because they don't have issues of destruction to be dealt with. I guess it's time to get back into the hobby! Looks like they don't have too many hard corals, but if I'm able to cultivate something unique, I'll ship a frag your way for propagation if legal under the regulations for export.
