Malu placement?

Where do they like best? sand, rock or on the border between both?
Any other placement tips?

This 'was' the malu last night. Woke up this morning and no sign of it!!! Do they do the puff up and float away thing like BTAs or could it have buried itself?

Tank is a peninsula tank so hoping to avoid going at the rock work at the wall end to try to find it in some dark cave.
