Mandarin Goby????

Have had a madarin in my tank for a week or so. There is now a white discoration at the edge of his body before his tail starts. This morning I looked at him, and the white area now has two small white fuzzy cotton balls in it.

I thought these guys were resistant to parasites? Any ideas on what this is and what I should do????????

Can you get a pic. It might be lympho???? Hard to tell but every fuzzy cotton ball I have seen on my fish ended up being lympho.

Hi there.

Could also be a fungus. If that is it get some maracyn 2 and that should help clear it up and it is only a 5 day treatment if succesfull on the first try.

I believe you need to know what you are actually treating before you treat the fish. A pic would be best in this case instead of treating without knowing.

Do you know how common fungal infections are in marine fish? They are usually secondary infection to injury, parasitic attack, bacterial infection.

Ichthyosporidium is a fungal disease but treatements usually consist of better water quality esc.

If your little guy has Lymphocystis it is a viral disease.

Hypertrophied (enlargement) of the tissue, grey/whit masses appear on the fins/face esc in Lymhocystis. You need good water quality esc.. with this disease. There is no specific 'magic' cure for Lymph but you need to watch for secondary infections.

thanks,,,,I will will work on determining what this sickness is. He is still eating like crazy and out swimming in open water. when I looked at him earlier the white cotton ball was gone, but it left an indention in his skin. However, it looks like it is healing over. So for now I am in a hold pattern.

That can be a good sign. Lymph really does not have a specific cure. And can and will clear up and can leave a fish disfigured bepending on how bad it is.

Keep good water quality and that should help.

=) Probably was Lymph. No need to treat your main tank, with something that might not be effective and just waste money.. =)
