Mandarins are resistant to catching ich, but they can still carry it. I gambled and just threw mine in the DT and I won, but I don't know if there's anything you can do to minimize the risk.
rather unlikely that they carry it with their unique oily slime coat. It is that coating that makes them HIGHLY resistant to getting or carrying the ich cysts and such. You stand a greater chance of it coming in on coral or cuc then a mandarin unless you are pulling from a heavily infected tank I guess.
Ich is not your biggest problem (they are resistant but not immune to it); there are other parasites such as velvet that can wipe out a tank. I suggest quarantine using nutramar ova to feed. That should work well.
