anyone have a mandrian with some white stuff(looks like Ich) on its side?

I will try to get a pic but it looks like it might be Ich. its the only fish in there for now but i can't remember if it had it when i got it or not. how common is it for mandrians to get Ich?

Mandarins do not get ich! If yours has it, it would be the first I ever heard of it. Mandarins have an oily coat on their bodies, and mine will sometimes pick up pieces of fine sand on it's body. I wouldn't worry about it. If it is fat and eating, it should be good.

like trojan said i never heard of a mandarin getting ich. it could be sand it has picked up off the bed and is sticking to him. mine do that all the time.

Mandarins can get Ich. I have see it first hand. I was also under the impression that it couldn't happen until I saw a psychedelic mandarin with it. If anything happens to their slime coat it leaves them open to infection. So maybe its not the norm, but it can happen.

I guess I should say, it's possible... they CAN get it, just very resistant to it, and I've never heard or have I seen anybody post that theirs has it. Most die in the aquarium due to inadequate food supply/ starvation. I've had mine for 3 years now! Fat cow fish, and always a fan favorite.

and to answer your original post, it's very uncommon if your mandarin does have it. If it does, only known treatment is copper. Quarantine and copper treat. I go more holistic myself. If any fish of mine has ever contracted ich, I increase feedings, use garlic and vitamins, and hope the fish fights it off. I firmly believe that catching and quarantining can do more harm and stress to a fish than just leaving well enough alone. You'll find various arguments and opinions on the matter for sure.
Good luck, hope your mandarin doesn't have it.

could it be sand that gets stuck to his mucus when he's eating and gets a mouthful? Mine looks like he has it sometimes due to him "blowing" it out the gills
