Mangrove Propagation?

Has anyone successfully propagated mangroves? Mine is growing very well and has many leaves, I would like to propagate if possible before it gets any taller. Thanks in advance

I dont know this for sure , but I can try to answer. For a mangrove to reproduce it will likely need to be rather large, chances are you need atleast two, and you will need to be able to reproduce the necessary cues for the production of flowers, like temp rise or drop, daylight cycle etc.

If you are talking about taking cuttings I never heard of anyone successfully doing it. It's definately worth a shot if you plan on trimming it back anyway. If it were me, I'd try some cuttings in water and some with rooting hormone in a very porous potting soil, actually maybe just vermiculate. Also, with most plants I've done I've had a better success rate if you stick to just 1 or 2 leaves per cutting. Otherwise, too much moisture will be lost due to transpiration.

If you do give it a try I'd love to hear how it turns out.

Interesting, i missed that point, maybe take cuttings. From what I've read young mangroves dont take to well to being trimmed, but I suppose a mature tree with actual branches might be a good candidate. Like Mike said treat it almost as you would any woody cutting, you may even get away with just hanging it in the water keeping the cut submerged. If possible dont allow the cut to be exposed to air may help.
