I haven't ordered tbs but have been hearing reports of mantis and gorilla crabs on rock. People say these are a pest. But technically if you left the mantis and crabs in there the mantis would eat the crabs then you just have to get the mantis, right?

just want to make sure before i decide to order tbs

Actually, after I caught the mantis from my TBS rock, i caught a Gorilla crab and dropped it in the goldfish bowl with the mantis. The mantis hadn't eaten in a week, and it was completely uninterested in the crab. The crab was in there a couple more days before I finaly fed the mantis some mussels, which he pounced on the moment it hit the gravel.

It's gotta vary by species. Different Mantis shrimp eat different things. Mine was a smasher and a recluse. I think he eats sessile things only. mussel would probably smell like some kind of bivalve he was used to eating.

He had been eating barnacles from my rock before I caught him. I actually saw him smashing on open one morning.

AHA! Thats IT! I'd wondered what had offed most of my barnacles! Surprised I hadn't thought of it sooner!
