Hi. As my first official post on Reef Central, I thought it appropriate that it would be related to having caught a mantis. I have scoured RC for several months now gaining knowledge on managing a successful reef tank. This information enabled me to have a great start up for my first reef about 3 months ago. The reef, while still fairly new, is thriving and I'm having a great time tweaking the system to make the best possible environment for a diversity of life I never thought I would have in my own home.
Speaking of diversity, I got a little more than I wanted with my TBS live rock. Don't get me wrong, I can't imagine getting anything other than TBS after my experience with it. However, the mantis shrimp just had to go. I caught the first one within a couple of weeks of setting up my tank. I know it may not sit well with the group in this particular forum, but I smashed the heck out of it and threw it in the trash with a sense of triumph.
It has taken me nearly 3 months to catch the second one. This time I placed it in my sump and thought I'd drop a note here to see if anyone would be interested in trading a small frag (zoo's?) for it.
Anyway, I want to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of RC for helping to get me educated on reef systems and I look forward to contributing back to the group that has helped me so much in getting started.
here is a quick couple of pics of the mantis I recently caught and would like to trade.... It is about 1 1/4 inches long.
Please let me know if you would like to coordinate a trade. I'd be more than happy to get this little critter away from my system.
