I currently have an N. curacaoensis in a 12 gallon nano, and was thinking about adding a clam, but wasn't sure if the mantis would try to kill something larger than itself. The mantis is just shy of 2".
My 3" peacock killed and consumed a 4" crocea clam. I believe if she is fed more often perhaps she would not be interested in clams, but I prefer to feed her a few times a week to maintain her active nature.
Basically what she would do is attack the mantle and stress the clam to death then pull it out when it would no longer close.
O. scyllarus are known for killing clams. I've eveb seen them doing it in the field. N. curacaoensis is much more lightly armed and is less likely to be interested in a decent sized clam.
