Mantis cost

these prices are crazy, i live in bay area CA, and i got a peacock thats about 3 inch yesterday for only 15.99, i'm happy i live in the bay area.

Where'd you get him, may I ask?

Other than whatever Hitchhikers I may get from TBS, an O. Scyllarus is my next Mantis.

To the general question:

I payed 27.00 for my G. Viridis in a store in Oakland, a bit steep, but I loved his colors and outgoing nature (ironically, he would become very reclusive and molt to a grey/dark purplish color :} ...he is getting a bit more outgoing now, though). He is just under 3".

I payed 20.00 for a 4" G. Ternatensis. My G. Platysoma was also listed at 20.00, but the LFS threw him in for free after I spent a small fortune on heaters, LR,tanks etc...

i paid $50 for a beutifull female peacock in austin texas, another place had one for 40, but i don't like that store so much.

URIEL - i got my mantis at Aquarium Concepts in hayward, off of foothill blvd. they have two more mantis, but i don't think their peacocks. small green one about 2 inch, and a sand looking one about 1 1/2 inch. the prices they mark their mantis shrimps for are from 12.99 to 19.99. all the female employees thought i was crazy for buying a mantis, and all the male's said i'll be amazed with it around feeding time. Very friendly place though.

oh man... darn lfs around here have NO mantis shrimp, especially the one i want.. a peacock
the one that actually does have one wants $100 for it.

Well if you want them bad enough, you'll probably pay what they want!:D So far I've got the small ones free. The LFS I go to in Salt Lake has them when I'm not looking and they are usually around $35.

I got my first mantis, from a friend's TBS rock, for trade for a couple of frags. My Peacock, from a North-of-Boston LFS, was priced at $29.95, but I got him in trade for a couple of nice frags. There was a period in my reefing hobby when I never "paid" for any livestock, but now that I've just got two nanos and no longer farm w/ large tanks, the prices are shocking!

I get small ones 3" an less for free. I got my 4" G. chiragra for $19.99. Peacocks usually retail for $30. Never seen a spearer here.

:( Can't get them here that I know of, I know the LFS doesn't have them and the other not so local fish store I go to I've never seen one there (they're a better store though so they might be able to order one, but still doubtful). On the topic of prices anyone know how much reefer madness charges for theirs? Haven''t contacted them yet...
