Mantis digging through rock?

Hi-I finally trapped a mantis in a piece of live rock that I know has no other exit.Can he dig through? He is probably 1-1.5 inches into the live rock?Any suggestion on how to spare him if he cant dig his way out? He is about 2 inches long.Green almost olive drab
The live rock is pretty dense.(Maybe me toAny thoughts?
