i am trying to make a mantis shrimp habitat for a peakock and a another specie thats green i have live rock and other tools can any body give me som tip ideas whatever thanks Ryan

Start off with at least a 10 gallon tank for a small peacock. Move to a larger 20 gallon long later. You can use anything from sand to rock to crushed coral for the substrate. Live rock and other regular rock should be used to create places for them to hide. I also found that a piece of plastic or pvc tubing at least a little larger in length and diameter than their bodies works well when buried under rock or in the sand. They will use this as their burrow and will provide the security they need.

As far as lighting goes especially for a peacock..... don't use the brightest lights available despite the animals vivid colors. a small 8 watt flourescent tube would be more than enough for a 10 or 20 gallon tank. The only reason you would want to use more light than this would be for growing the live rock.....

You can really use any kind of filter you want for the tank, I use a penguin mini designed for a 20 gallon tank. For a 10-20 gallon tank a protein skimmer works well instead of a filter. If you don't use a skimmer make sure you do a 30% water change about every 2 weeks.

Do a search on here and you will find more info... Hope this helps.
