Can anyone identify this mantis for me? Hope the pics are good enough. Thanks a bunch.

The coloring is very light, or the photo might be a bit off, but the markings can only be Gonodactylus platysoma. This is a reef flat species that occurs from French Polynesia to East Africa and gets to about 8 cm.

that is exactly like mine. Exactly! Gonodalactyus thanks. If you look at my thread, new mantis, need Id, I have pics of mine. How big is yours?

cool, mine is about 1.25". Have you seen the pic of one like ours on Grimreefer? that was one sweet mantis! What are your tank specs?

I was actually reading about this particular species over there when I popped back over here and Roy had answered me telling me it was that type. That was pretty cool.
My tank is a 10gl newly cycled tank. The lighting is a 96w PowerQuad. The rock and sand is from a Florida dealer and so a red N. Werrenae (sp) came with it. Tha tank was actually put together for a peacock mantis, but the florida mantis came in the rock so I left him there. Well, today making a trip to the LFS they had this Gono and sold it to me for $10. I wasn't walking away from that deal so he came home with me. I put him in the ten gallon with the expectation that I would remove the florida mantis's rock to another tank. It turns out he was on another rock and quickly discovered his new roomate. He reared up at the Gono several times, but the Gono ignored him and kept on carrying out arm fulls of sand from under a rock. Now with luck going my way it seems, I FINALLY have a 3" peacock mantis coming friday. So I spent the rest of this evening scurrying to prepare a tank for it using rock and sand from my other tanks. I don't dare add it to the 10gl. I had named the little red mantis Godzilla for some odd reason, so with no gd reason, hehe I named the Gono King Kong. I have a pic of them checking eachother out. The pic ofcourse is filed as Godzilla vs. King Kong, LOL. They never came to blows tho as the Gono totally blew off Godzilla like he already knows he can whoop his butt. The red mantis moved back to its own rock and the Gono is staying in his hole for now, but I know I am going to have to separate them or the sand will be churning for sure. Its funny to watch Godzilla strutting his stuff at King Kong, and King Kong just totally ignoring him tho.

It was funny to watch, with no harm done except maybe Godzilla's ego is alittle damaged.
