Got this guy for $10 at a LFS I stopped at on vacation. The guy said that he found it in a tank full of fiji and Pukalani(sp) rock. There were also a number of corals in the tank, he is about 3" so i think it would be difficult for him/her to have HH on a coral. I guess its possible though.

I really tried to get a pic of the rear, but it just wasn't happening. Very gregarious and outgoing. I was hoping for a smithii or maybe chiraga.

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, it has the purple meral spots with the white rings and it has the red raptorial appendages of a G smithii. Does it have a red knob at the base of the uropods that almost comfirms a smithii? Check Dr. Roy's list to be sure. Let us know the final out come. It is a beautiful mantis.

I do, but it's so blurry I doubt it would up load. Follow the uropod up to the point it attaches to the body. The red knob should be there. My Smithii is shy so it's hard to catch a glimpse, but once you find it, it's easy. I'll keep trying for another pic.

Look at the 2nd picture of G. smithii on Dr. Roy's list. You can see the red knob at the base of the uropods clearly.
