i just got a new mantis shrimp, i didn't take a photo but it looks like this one on the identification page

but it looks like a spearer, maybe a pseudosquilla cilata

is it just a pseudosquilla cilata? because i'm hoping for a smasher!

Without a pic it is always difficult to identify.
Try to make a picture.

Here you can see a P. ciliata. Take a look at the raptorial apendages and compare it with your mantis. P. ciliata has also a checkerboard pattern on the eyes.

well i tried comparing it to my other p cilata, and they look sort of similar, gotta check those eyes!

i just checked the eyes this weekend and yes it is a p. cilata! active little guy too
