mantis in Indy?

I am interested in getting a smaller mantis (wennerae, smithii, etc) for a 5.5G tank that I have set up. I would prefer not to ship, and am interested to know if anyone in or around Indy would have a smaller mantis that they possibly got as a hitchhiker, etc that they would want to part with, or would know of any stores that would stock or order something like that. thanks.

Haven't seen or heard of any this week, but UB's East seems to be in the business of mantis recently. UB's South and Abyss have also carried smaller mantis in the past.

yea,h I called up the Abyss today, and they said they didn't have it...I"ll have to call the UB's...

Thanks a bunch, and I love reading about the adventures of tim.

well, I called UB's east, they didn't even know what a mantis was...called UB west, he said to check back wednesday because they might get them in stock...man, this is gonna be like christmas, and knowing my luck, they won't have any in stock then.

Want to go to Terre Haute? Inland Aquatics sometimes will set aside a hitch-hiker mantis when they find them. Be sure to call to check before you make the drive. I had nagged them for a few months for one, then I broke down and had them order me a peacock. By the time the peacock was there, they had two hitch-hikers they'd found!

That's a little far for me. I found a store that will order one, and UB's said that they might get them in on wednesday.

This might be a really stupid question, but, aside from size, are there any characteristics that are very easy to check out (i.e. in a pet store tank) that distinguishes the O.S. and a Smithii? I may be picking up a mantis on Wednesday, and I want to make sure that I'm getting an animal that will fit in my 5.5G (and won't cause a tidal flood on my computer monitor!). Anyway, thanks again.
