Mantis keeping tips?

For my birthday Iv decided to get a mantis. My brother, who is the saltwater expert at Austin Aquariums, had a peacock mantis and she resided at my house for a while. I would watch her kill things the throw sand at where my face was on the other side of the glass, and even once angerly trim a feather dusters feathers when it apparentally made her mad. So he has agreed to get me a nanocube and sand and live rock, and I have decided to get a Neogonodactylus wennerae (prefrebly red thought I know their color can change with water depth).

Anyways, I have been searching the web for all things mantis, but most of the infomation is pretty general. I was wondering if anyone had any first time manti' owner. What is generally the favorite type of snail for a treat (though I would feed frozen foods most of the time). How long does it take for the mantis to start exploring the tank and getting comftrable?

Any info and tip will be much appreciated!

Hey Frozen [welcome] most mantis shrimp will stay in their burrows in the begining but they have great personalities . I go to Austin Aquariums quite often he's gotta great place . Did you check out the Lurker's guide to stomapods Dr. Roy is an expert on the subject of mantis shrimp . Do a search and that should give you a good start this forums a good place as well .:beer:

Seriously....these critters just can't be killed LOL.....I have one in a bare bones 10gl former qt, after finally catching it and removing it from my 72gl display....they will eat anything, and seem to be pretty darn hardy...I TRIED to kill it and it wouldn't die...so...imho, I think your planned set up will be just fine.

Mine really loves cocktail shrimp I just thae it out and put it near his hole with a feeding stick.

Haha, yeah, I like dangerous pets. Actual saltwater fish seem like too much of a hassle, so why not something that would eat them? And yes, I have looked at Dr. Roy's page. But the Lurkers guide to stomapods doesnt come up on my computer with out a firefox pop-up not letting me do anything.
