Mantis Over build

So all the snails are gone and I can count less then 15 blue legs still running around. It's been a nosiey week. CLICK! CLICK! WHACK! WHACK! CLICK!

Sweeeeeet! I got a kick out of putting the baby gorilla crabs I kept catching in the FL rock I bough into my Juggernaut's tank - this must be interesting. I just keep learning about this guy and now I think I'm keeping him lol the more I read on here the more interesting he is getting!

Very cool! I have an N. wennerae and he flipped over a turbo 3X his size and ate it. lol. I put it in his tank to help with glass algae- that didn't last long. :D Very cool set-up and you have a luck mantis!

The snails are hard to keep if Squshi does not eat them due to there being no algae to eat. I have not been able to get a PHO reading out of this tank at all. I change the GFO every 4 weeks and I don’t really feed except for the clown and blue damsel 8 or 9 little pellets a day, Squshi gets a piece of jumbo shrimp once in a while (not to often). I leave the lights on over the tank sometimes as long as 16 hours a day. The macro is growing so slowly witch makes me lol cus in any other system I have put macro in you have to prune the hell out of it to control it.
I am going to try and find sometime this week to get into my wood shop and make a proper light stand/canapé. I am thinking of putting some of my t5s (aqtinics) and one metal halides (250w 14,000k) over the system. I will have halide come on for short burst through the day an hour here an hour there. Just to get some light into the tank for more algae growth, and I am thinking of making a mangrove forest right in the middle. This will give shade center of the tank and light ripples to the surrounding sandy areas. Trying to capture a look of snorkeling with your mask half in the water half out, looking at a small island chain.
While typing this I suddenly had the earge to make two pina colodas. One for each hand.

For the most part this is where I am getting my inspiration. http://www.youtube.com/user/Grimmpls#p/a/f/2/rj2dTLgXddU
He did an amazing job. But I want the light over the island (in my case islands) so there will be shafts of light that shoot down into the water. Hmm makes me think maybe a moving light bar. That would cast some cool shadows.
I forgot the dudes name that did this tank but I love how creative he was and his master piece is not lost on me.

I dug this photo out of the same tank back before I moved to dc.

I got over to the wood shop and started playing. One thing led to the next and 2 hours later I had a free standing three leg canapé. I now had to mount the lights and ballast. At first I was going to bolt the canapé to the stand but once I mounted the ballast and light timers I found it counter balanced the tripod right out. No fear of this thing tipping over at all. I made a frame 26"x26" then added legs 47" high. The lights have four chains coming off them to hooks I screwed into the frame. The lights are way over kill for this but you'll see I got this thing figured out. Two t5 ho Actinics. One 250 watt Phoenix 14,000K and a partridge in a pair tree. I set the halide to come on for an hour off for 3 then on again for one. The t5s are on for 8 hours. Thinking about adding some leds, I really should not. Lol heres what I got. :celeb1:

Now that there is way to much light for even the clown fish to adjust my mantis is out hunting like crazy. So maybe a molt is coming on or Squshi likes the upgrade.

If you're still looking for macroalgae, come on over and join WAMAS (www.wamas.org). It's the local club and there are a ton of people who prune lots of stuff pretty regularly and give it away.

Dana42078 Yea this is true but his last molt was less then 2 months ago and he is religiously on time with his molts every 4 months without fail.

You actually would need to join to get to the sales/free section, but it's well worth the money. It took me a long time to join myself but it was well worth it - I got tons of freebies!

I joined when I saw this post. But did not know were to find a good place to start asking about the macro. I will head there now to check out this sales/free section you speak of. I just got excited. Thank you.

Squshi is molting. Way early but he’s defiantly molting again. It’s funny just when you think you got this all figured out here comes a curve ball. I wanted to do a water change tonight. Guess that’s going to have to wait.

Here is a pix of the skull Squish lives in and he has it closed up for a molt.

still waiting out this molt. I do look forward to Squshi's return from isolation. I have a problem. it is my CUC eats the macro faster then I can grow it. With no Fuge I will have to do with out.
