Mantis questions from a newb

I am a newbie. Can anyone tell me if the Peacock mantis shrimps are "smashers" or "spearers"? Also, can someone list in coolness/availability the top 3 'spearers' and the top 3 'smashers' in the hobby. Thanks.

Peacocks are smashers.

As far as the top three coolness/availability list for smashers:
1. Peacock (Odontodactylus Scyllarus)
2. Neogonodactylus Wennerae (seems very available, I have one and he's really social and the coloration is great)
3. not sure

as far as spearers, I don't know that they're all that common or available.

check out the sticky at the top of this subforum and read the thread for all potential mantis keepers. That way you can decide what you'd like and search for it.
