Mantis Shrimp in Canada

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for mantis shrimp in Canada. Unfortunately I've been having a really hard time finding one. Looking for a G. smithii or P. ciliata species. I've been doing my research for a couple of months and I've settled on the above two as my favourites. I wouldn't mind a
N. wennerae or N oerstedii either. It's just that most of the LFS around here discourage keeping them and I've stopped bothering with giving an explanation. If there's anyone here in the region of Toronto I would love to buy a Mantis if you have any that have entered your tank as hitch hikers.

Talk to the people at stomatopod.com to see if they can ship you a mantis that you are looking for. I have talked to them in the past and they are very helpful. I hope that helps a little.

From thier FAQ's it seems that they do not ship to Canada. It's got something to do with livestock regulation and other factors. Thanks for the info though. I'll give them a call and find out.

becasue if u lived in B.C i have tons of people who can get one for u

so i would say the best thing to do is just to check with your lfs when they get there liverock in to see if they got any mantis shrimp

I"ve already contacted LFS around and they are a hit and miss. And the last one I checked had four and they ended up feeding them to triggers. I was 2 weeks too late. But if you know someone who can get a mantis for me I wouldn't mind paying for it. There's a good informative section on shipping them as well. So if they're willnig to ship, I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable price.

Thanks for the help.

I've found a Peacock Mantis for now. It's quite small about 2 inches. I guess a 10 Gallon tank should suffice for now. I'm setting a couple more tanks up so if anyone comes across a mantis that they want to get rid off please let me know

If you are ready to ship her you should try reefconcept.com, they just received this little beaty today:

The LFS that was supposed to deliver the Mantis lost more than half of thier livestock in a shipment that was help up at pearson international airport for over 50 hours. So I'm still waiting on my Mantis. I'm still interested if anyone comes across a mantis. Thanks.
