Mantis Shrimp

Anyone know how to catch a mantis shrimp other than the bottle method? I tried the bottle method with raw tuna, and crabmeat .Found one in my new rock 2 days ago. Seems like a small one, about 2". Blends in perfect with purple coraline but changes color rapidly to a dark greenish black/blue as well with orange legs. Its eating my clams that came with my new rock. I'm leaving for Florida in 2 days and want to get it before I leave. I may put it in my sump if its not a glass breaker. It is a smasher though. Any help appreciated. I do see the rock it's in and would rather spare the die-off of R/O dunking, or over salinitized water....Anyone know if they eat yellow sponges as well. One has major damage this am. Thanks for any help..Steve

Steve, dunking the rocks in RO quickly shouldn't cause too much of an issue. Most microorganisms can survive a quick exposure to freshwater. The little guys should come screaming outta there. Then get them back into SW immediately.

Some of the guys in the mantis forum squirt seltzer water into the hole where the mantis is.
