mantis shrimp

After getting back from a trip, 3 of my fish are MIA. The only fish in that tank that I have left is a very large purple tang. The MIAs are a 6 line, a Lipstick Blenny, and a Pygmy Angle.

After talking with my buddy, he said I must have a predator, and I was very doubtful at first, I have not put anything in that tank for a while, but then he said that mantis shrimp make a clicking noise, and unfortunately I have heard a clicking noise in my tank at night for a while.

Anyways, I am going to buy a trap today and see if I can catch what might be in the tank, and if it turns out to be a mantis or pistol shrimp, I will not want to keep it. So with that said, if I do catch something like this, would anyone want it?

Yes!

I've been looking for one for a while now, and have a tank all set up for one, so I'd gladly take him off your hands.

I'm sorry about the missing fish though, and good luck on catching him!

Questin, research trapping them, they are very smart. Clicking Mantises are usually smashers and go after the snails and hermits. Stabbers usually take fish by spearing them, I am pretty sure they don't click.

the clicking noise is almost always a pistol shrimp, I really doubt they wouldn't have killed all those fish.
My guess is they either jumped or died of some other cause.

I have a mantises and have never heard him make a clicking noise
but im not going to say they dont. I have a pistol shrimp thats all ways clicking. im with reefkoi I dont think they jumped but died and they got eaten by the snails and hermits and bristleworms..
I lost a fish this way and was thinking it jumped untill I seen the worms eating it.
Good luck with the shrimp what ever it is..
