Mantis Tank

Alright so I went by the LFS this evening and was lookin around and I noticed they had a mantis for sale (finally!!). I am planning on starting a tank for him, but was wondering if what I have would be enough. I have a 3 and 5 gallon tank, each having a bio wheel filter. All I plan on having in there is the mantis, some LR for his house, and a sand bed. The lights I have for each tank are compact fluro's. Besides needing a heater and an air stone to keep the water going, would this equipment be fine to house the critter? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!!!!

Likely fine for a smaller specimen, but there are quite a few specimens that will out grow a 5 gallon.

Mantis Shrimp are tough critters but don't force them to cycle a tank. Make sure you use well cured liverock that is transported well.

Good luck.

The mantis I saw today that I was thinking about getting was a smasher and was a brownish color. By this description, would it be possible to tell me if the 5 gallon tank would be fine for him??

Not possible with that ID. If it outgrows the tank, you'll likely upgrade to a larger tank since their personality really captures you.

Good luck.
