Mantis Update

I am now back from vacation and am happy to report that the N Wennerae I got from FuzzNuts(ty once again) is alive and well. He is about 1 1/2 - 2" long and is neon green. My parents said he was very active while I was gone digging up sand under my LR and moving from rock to rock but now he has made home in a hole and hasnt been out much since I been home so I cant get a good pic. As far as I can tell whle I was gone he ate one snail and I got him got eat some krill yesterday that I soaked in Selcon. Ill try to get a good pic of him up when he gets a little more active or when I feed him again.

Also, it appears while I was gone I started to get some algae which I guess is normal for a newly cycled tank. I ordered a pincushion urchin and some more snails/crabs so hopefully that will clean it up a little bit. Its not too bad right now so hopefully I can get it under control. I promise to get some pics up soon, hopefully tomorrow.

Well for the past 6 days since I have been back the mantis has not been active what so ever. He has set up shop in a hole in one of my rocks and never comes out. He does peer out of the hole every once in a while but thats about the extent of his interactivity. The funny thing is that most of the mornings when I turn on the light he is sitting atop of the rock he stays in but then he quickly darts off into his hole for the rest of the 12 hrs that I leave the light on. I fed him once 3 days ago with krill but am going to hold off on feeding him to see if he will start being a little more active. Just hoping he loosens up a bit because as of right now the only excitement in the tank is the turbos tumbling down the rocks periodically :).

It is kind of starting to seem like thats the case. I can peer directly into his hole when I open the tank lid and he just kind of stares up at me refusing to move out of the hole. I put plenty of things for him to play with in the tank hoping he would establish his dominance in the tank but he pretty much refuses to do anything but stay in his hole. Right now there is 2 blue legs, 2 scarlets, about 12 snails, an urchin, and a emerald crab in there with him. The emerald is always feeding right outide his cave and I have watched the hermits and snails graze right over top of his hole without even gettng a warning smack. It is kind of like he knows what I got him for, so he is choosing to be a model citizen.
