Ive had a 30 gallon since March of 2006, various fish and coral, 2x96 watt pc lighting. Have had great success with keeping fish and most of my corals alive (couple I wasn't quite ready for). Im having wicked issues trying to keep my calcium levels up. I dose with b-ionic 2 part, but I have some much halimeda growing on the rocks, I feel its taking away all the calcium for my coraline to grow. Have 1 shroom I added 3 months ago I know have 6 and tissue residue which will be neat to see how many come out of that. My xenia started as a stalk and a half Im now working on having 6 of them. My corals are doing great but am having a hard time getting coraline to grow.
In April of 2006 I started a 10 gallon w/ a hang on back refugium. Coraline is growing great, have had a couple mushrooms generate smaller ones, my green star polyps are really spreading. Its under PC light also. I have a small bta on hold at the LFS, I dont think I want to put it in the 30 because of my ph levels not being consistant plus I have a lot of corals probably where it will want to live. I want to put it in the 10 gal, as its maybe an inch inch and a half wide. Possible?? Ive seen where other have done it, my LFS told me to go for it as my parameters are pristine in the 10 for whatever reason. She did all the test last week. My calcium was at 430 instead of 450 but she said that didnt matter to much and I bought a new test to get it up.
Final set of questions my mother found an 2.5 gallon tank (like for a beta fish or gold fish). I put some sand I had left over that was dried out and added some from my 30 gallon. Put in a dead coral skeleton Ive add laying around. In her filter I put a used carbon bag to help with getting bacteria in. Big question is that it has a top with a 15 watt bulb in it. Can she keep any corals under that type of lighting (mushrooms, sun polyps?) Or should I look in to a type of clip on light? Also what kind of fish, I told her not to and put in a shrimp as they are far more fun to watch. She'll probably upgrade to a 5.5 gallon in a few months once she gets the hang of it. Do they make any small heaters I have a 50 watt in there now kind of big. Wasn't sure about hiding it under the sand or behind the rock when she buys some, or if she steals some of mine.
Thanks in advance.
