Mappa and Masked Puffer Question

Has anyone every tried mixing a Mappa Puffer with a Masked Puffer? I've tried a Black Puffer and regular Dog Face Puffer together without no problems. Thanks!

It should work.


I have never tried it but I would add the Mask first then the Mappa.


Just remember Mappa's get huge!!!


I have a Stellatus and in a year it went from 5 inches to 15 inches!!!!

Mappa's get almost as big as Stellatus's to.

Thanks for your input ! I currently have a 4-5" Mappa (which was actually about 3" a month ago ) in my 180 FOWLR right now. Do you think it would matter if the Mappa was in there first or the Masked? I will be upgrading my tank to a 300-500G later on this year.

I thought mappa's had a reputation as being very peaceful. If that's true, I think it would be fine for the mappa to be first.

I don't have experience with masked puffers. I know they stay "small" - 12 inches. Are they similar in personality to dogface puffers. They look similar.

I would try to get a Masked bigger than your Mappa.


Mappa's can be mean.


Good luck finding a Mask I have not seen them on any wholesale lists in quite a while.

I actually have a local guy (vendor) here (NJ) that's placing an order from the Red Sea and there's a Mask Puffer on the list; Still waiting on price and size.

My mappa was pretty docile but I had to get rid of him when he became 15 inches long. They really shouldn't be housed in anything less than a 400 gallon tank.

I've heard that they do tend to be peaceful and could be mixed with other puffers.
