Does anyone know what happened to the Maracyn Two saltwater version? I have been unable to find it anywhere - just the freshwater version.

Did Mardel pull it from the market? if so, why?? what is a good substitute for a gram negative antibiotic?

Thanks!

Saltwater Maracyn 1 & 2 has been phased out in favor of Maracyn Plus, which uses different antibiotics. Kanamycin treats both gram positive & negative, so it's probably a good substitute.

You can use the freshwater version of Maracyn two in a saltwater application. The only difference was that the saltwater version had added B vitamins. I would provide a link to this information, but due to the rules, I cannot since it is on a different forum. You may be able to find this information searching the web. Kanamycin works well.

Thanks, I guess I will switch to Seachem Kanaplex since Sergeant replied to my email and said they are no longer making Maracyn....

On another note - the Seachem website has a lethal dose(20ml/10.5gal) of Cupramine listed as the recommended dosage. I used it and killed all my quarantine fish. The bottle says 16ml/10.5gal which seems to work....

When I use Cupramine, I keep the dosage lower than what Seachem recommends on the label. I keep the levels at 0.35-0.40mg/l for 4 weeks. I also ramp up the dosage over 5-7 days so the fish can acclimate better. This dosage calculator comes in very handy if you know the exact volume of your QT:

I prefer to use a syringe for dosing, rather than drops from the bottle.

Say what!? It says 20 drops or 1ml per 10.5g on website. Not 20ml
