March Meeting Results

Here are some pictures of the final product of our project at the march meeting. Joy has some made during the meeting, these are just before putting it in the tank.

This one was before I trimmed the extra eggcrate off, but after the resin and sand was applied.

A full tank shot. This is my 55gallon for the snowflake and dwarf lionfish, also has a niger trigger in there

After putting it in I had a problem with it wanting to float So I took it back out and with a BIG butcher knife I cut off any extra great stuff from the back, which was a fair amount. It now sits on the bottom by it's self So if I make another one, want to use more rock and less greatstuff

Looks good Norman, cool build.... I'll try to post pictures of my own creation before leaving for vacation. I didn't make it to the meeting (unsure of weather) but my wife and I built our own rock wall that weekend, it's going into the cure tub tonight!

John; it was fun to make. you will enjoy doing it when you get the chance.

Sandlescout; looking forward to seeing your creation, it is pretty neat to make your own live rock wall (or cave )

gonna go in another direction but since we're on this foam stuff...have any of you been to aquatic critters reptile store and seen all the dart rog setups they are building? They are just amazing. I went this evening to pick up a tank...I mean terrarium and they have setup a 55 that's really nice. Little waterfalls, live plants, land/water. You should really go check em out.

Steve, those setups are VERY VERY cool, I totally dig them.... kinda makes me want frogs everytime I see them!

They setup a new 55 gal today and it looks really good. Has some kind of lizards in it. I'm really thinkin' about one of those 24 gal cubes like they have setup on the counter.

That looks really nice Norman, you did a really good job!!! I think I would like to make something like that when I start the bigger FOWLR tank project either in the Summer or next Fall. Probably get you to help me with it...

Norman, what kind of sand or crushed coral did you use? Also what kind of sealer on the foam to stick the sand? Any information on the things you used would be great. Thanks Ricky

Thanks Michael, and just let me know when you want to do that project. It really was fun to make..

Ricky....I just got some epoxy resin from Lowes and some regular pet store sand substrate. Just put the resin on outside unless you like glue sniffing:crazy1:


Steve... I have not even been in the reptile side of the AC... but now I guess I'll have to at least go in and look around. I sure hope I don't find something I can't live without.:lol:

I need to get some pictures of my little great stuff project in the tank as well... now that it is in there. I was very surprised by how buoyant it was. Anyone that saw that thing or grabbed a hold of it knew how heavy it was... well, it was buoyant enough that I had to jam some other rocks against it to get it to lean back slightly as it was meant to do. It was trying to sit straight up and down.

Knowing that, I'm not sure how that one guy made his entire background out of the stuff without it ripping off of the back. I also wonder what kind of stress that would put on a tank...
