When in doubt the best thing to do is a water change. I would do at least 50% rather than keep trying to battle your alkalinity with so many different suggestions everyone recommends here or anywhere. You end up making things worse that way. Everyone has their own opinion as to what they think is best but the truth is every tank is different and responds differently. Water changes are the one thing every single aquarist can agree on. Once you do 1 or 2 large water changes test for everything and try to keep things stable. Fluctuations in alkalinity are what causes STN more than the actual number.

This is true, but only to a certain degree. Not everyone can agree on what salt to use. :D

To the OP, if you're looking to drop your KH, you could consider Tropic Marin's Alca-Balance. But, it will most likely raise your Ca+, and with it already at 480 ppm, you may not want to do that. You can find it here.

Another good suggestion would be what Gon08 said, waterchanges. Just be sure to use a salt that is typically around 8 dKH when mixed. I've had great luck with Oceanic salt; it's cheap and mixes quickly and consistently. Hope this helps.

Again, once your chemistry is in check, be sure to provide adequate flow for these colonies. They're typically pretty sensitive to that.

Thanks everyone for the help :)

I am going to be doing another 15 gal water change this weekend. Seems like when it rains, it pours...the heater died today :( so..temp went from 80 to 75...sigh

Hey, at least it didn't decide to stay on...80 to 85 could have been a lot worse. :)

so I did my weekly water change.

15 gallon with Kent Salt, but instead of lowering my parameters, my Calcium went up while my Alk stayed the same.

I am thinking its the salt..i should try a different brand.

Kent salt is around 11 dkh at 1.026. So that is a high alk salt and if your tryting to keep it lower maybe try a different salt with a lower alk.
