maricultured SPS ?

any feedback on experiences with maricultured SPS. ive been looking on DD and there is a couple choice pieces on there i like.any experiences good or bad before i make my decision will be helpfull.
 
I have some maricultured acros, as well as frags from aqua-cultured acros...IMO, i would just go with aqua-cultured...I have not had the same amount of success with maricultured. Although some mari have survived and are doing very well, I have had many more loses with mari...and Im not sure why as I take the same pre-cautions with each type in acclimation...

my dealer has some maricultured in his tanks, theyre not dying but they are not growing either, but depends on species imo.... mb u should ask for special ones
 
sorta what i figured id hear.theres just some really sweet frags ive seen.so tempting.but im used to ORA that grow like weeds. afraid to jump into temptation.
 
I have some maricultured in my tank but it is hard to keep their original color,most of them change color ,not like ORA or other aquacultured pieces that I have
 
IME the species of acro has had way more to do with my success or failure with maricultured acros than the fact that they were maricultured.
 
I've had pretty good luck with maricultured. Fragging them often helps too, start with a 1-2" piece and let it grow in. Often slow to start but there are some incredible corals coming in maricultured nowadays. Gotten really excellent loripes, horrida, deepwaters, hoeks, etc. that have amazing colors.
 
From what I understand, maricultured corals are grown in natural ocean water under natural sunlight, instead of tank water with artificial light. If you think about it, they are not that different from wild farmed corals. This explains the color changes when introducing these to a reef tank environment. There are a lot of corals around now that are maricultured in Fiji, and the ones I've seen personally were quite healthy but did not have explosive colors. I still think the best option is aquacultured sps, as it is already acclimated to tank life.
 
i agree i guess there is only one way to find out. ill give it a try. i dont have a QT tank thats what bothers me. but then again they may be all mixed in the same tank as the aquacultured anyway
 
I have picked up several. For some reason I had some trouble keeping maricultured until my tank hit the 2 year mark. Never had many problems with aquacultured sps though. There are some nice maricultured sps out there.
 
The colors have faded a bit, but not too much -- no different then the aquacultured ones that I have -- so I think any color loss is from my tank, and not because of them being maricultered. The oldest one is growing really well, lots of white (( new growth )) tips. The other two -- newer -- are just starting to grow. Seems to take 3-4 weeks for them to really settle in.
