this is 1 fish i wanted for yrs but was always scared to pull the trigger because ive always heard how tough it is to get them to eat and the semi hefty price tag on them but over the weekend i visited a petshop about an hr from me in Ramsey NJ just to check out there coral selection when POW i see a beautiful betta chillin out in 1 of there frag tanks, so just for kicks i ask the guy how much he was and he tells me hes 45 bucks and sence i figured i heard wrong i ask again and he repeats 45 bucks, my next question was is he eating prepared foods yet and the guy says hes been in the shop for a few months and eats just about anything u feed him and sence thats usualy the common reply i ask to see him eat and sure enough he ate mysis and flake so i had to jump on him and within an hr he was eating great and isnt shy at all, I'll post pics and more updates to come :spin2:

here he is out in the light lol

Congrats on a great fish and great price. I've always liked the Marine Beta and your looks awesome!

Mine eats everything thrown in the tank, I feed NLS pellets three times a day and frozen at least once a day. It loves picking pellets off of the sandbed. I've had it for about 2.5 years now, and it's a perfect tankmate in my reef with other peaceful fish.

alittle update, he seems to be fitting right in with his tank mates but i do notice him not being able to eat to well sence hes in with fast eating fish so im rehousing the foxface and tang so he has the tank to him self which i dont mind sence i wanted a marine betta for yrs, i tried a feeding stick but the other 2 guys ambush the stick and pick it clean

I considered getting one but I read that they'll eat shrimp. I have a coral banded and skunk cleaner shrimp, both about 2 - 3". Is this something I need to be concerned about?

Mine was housed with a couple of large cleaner shrimp for 2 years, but I'm betting that was the exception rather than the rule. If you're real attached to the shrimp, It's probably not worth the risk.

well i have mine with snails and what not and mine will flip the snails and try to suck them out of the shell.

so i would not be surprised if he tries to eat the CB. if the CB has some size on the betta i think he will be ok

what other fish do u have ur guy with MRCOOL?

Leopard wrasse (M. meleagris)
Melanurus wrasse (H. melanurus)
Geometric Pygmy hawk (P. inermis)
Occelaris clown (A. occelaris)
Dispar anthias (P. dispar)
Purple firefish (N. decora)

It was fairly shy when I got it, but now is usually out with all the other fish. It hasn't grown much in length, but has put on considerable girth.
