Hmmm I'm not sure if they are teh same or not.. I've kept them in brackish setups though just fine.. Same as teh japonicus I think is how its spelled are also brackish water shrimp... Are you using them for food or for pets?
I need them for food. They need to be saltwater as I need them to be around a long time on their own tank so that I can fatten them. I've checked some bait stores and they have those tunnelling ghost shrimps...but they are huge! I need those that are about ½" to 1½" in size.
Thanks!...I guess I'll have to do mail order then.
The ones at the bait store, 'grass shrimp', are local and cold water. I keep them outside in a full set up with a skimmer. If you take the time smaller ones will acclimate, but if you are just feeding it doesn't matter. FWIW, my seem to be breeding. Sometimes you can find small ones at bait stores, but most stores don't want to pick and choose for you, and actually I have only found one store in the BA that carries them. In general, they are much smaller than the 'ghost shrimp'. The local 'ghost shrimp' are bizarre huge things.
