Marine Ich - How long before adding new fishes?

How long do I have to wait before adding new after after I recovered from Marine Ich? Thanks in advance

I did turn up the heat and dose some formalin. The Ich is gone now but I am still waiting to add more fish. Why do I need to turn off the lights? Thanks!

Wanted answers to this as well.... Cycled my tank with established rock from my old tank. Added some fish after a bout a month. Seemed fine... then one got sick and spread the disease to half the other fish... All that had Ich died, but the other half the fish never showed any sign.

So... There has been no Ich signs in my tank for 6-8 weeks, but the tank was never fallow (fishless). When might it be safe to add another fish?

Only the Freshwater version of Ich is affected by heat. Marine Ich will not cycle more quickly with higher heat. Lights has nothing to do with it at all.

The Ich cycle averages about 4 weeks for the cysts to hatch out new Tomites (which can attach to your fish). During this time you need some medication in the water to kill these Tomites or a lack of fish in the tank will not provide a food source for these Tomites and they die in about 24 hours max after hatching out.

This 4 week cycle is average but there is a slight chance it could be as much as 8 weeks. Its about probabilities and most use 4-6 weeks to either keep the tank fallow or medicate the water.

You probably have cysts in the tank waiting to hatch out. You need to either medicate the tank and do so for 4-6 weeks or move the fish to quarantine where they can be medicated.

There can also be ich on the fish in the gills that you cannot see.

I will set my QT tank so I can either treat new fishes there or have it ready if I get Ich again. To set a new QT do I have to cycled again? Even though if I used a freshwater used filter? How long needs to be cycled before adding fish to the QT tank? Thanks!

With a quarantine tank you generally mix up fresh saltwater airate and heat then place fish in water. Daily water changes are necessary if using meds as you cannot use any filter medium. I use a 12 inch long and 6 inch wide piece of PVC pipe for the fish to hide in. Very important to watch ammonia and nitrite levels. Some people will also use a sponge filter which is maintained in the DT or sump until needed to provide some filtration without chemical media. I premix 50 gls of new saltwater and change 15 of 40 gls every other day

Thanks! I put an air stone, PVC, heater and a power filter and took off the carbon. Should I buy RO filtered water or premixed tap water should be fine? Thanks!
