Hello reef central
I would like to document what has happened in my tank over the past 7 months and see if anyone can shed some light on my situation.
Back in september of 2011 I put a blue tang in my tank and this fish developed marine ich. This eventually spread to all the other fish over the span of a month (except the clown fish). All of the fish died. Prior to this I had my tank running for at least a year w no occurrences of marine ich.
I have a smaller 24 gallon so I housed my two clowns in there and used copper to treat the fish. At the same time I left my main tank empty for 45 days with no fish( I had been instructed by my lfs to use ruby reef crap or kick ich but all that stuff is a sack of bs. I have a reef tank and was not about to use copper in there either).
Fast forward 45 days ahead.
Now that my display tank has supposedly cycled through the marine ich life cycle, i decided to add fish again. I started adding fish around mid to late december. Didn't have any problems with ich and always put my new fish in a qt tank prior to adding to the display.
Fast forward to march of 2012
In addition to the fish i already had I decide to buy another blue tang(the ultimate ich magnet) I house him initially in my qt tank ( as I do with all my fish) and after about 2 weeks i moved him into the display.
Fast forward to April 15th 2012
After putting the blue tang into the display I notice that he has now developed ich. No other fish has ich.
Why?
I don't see how there was ich in my tank prior to the blue tang as no other fish had it prior to the introduction of the blue tang. The blue tang was also in the qt tank for several weeks with no signs of sickness.
Can ich be carried on shrimp? I never pulled my shrimp out during the qt process.
Are certain fish immune to ich?
