Marine ich

A bad ich situation broke out in my 55gal tank. I have lost 4 fish and I have a yellow tang with mild ich and a blue damsel with ich all over it's eyes badly. How do I treat it? I am using a treatment called premafix but is there any thing else i can do?

You have to get the fish out and treat with copper or hypo salinity in a quarantine tank. The stuff you are using is useless. There are only 3 ways to kill ich. Hypo, copper, or do tank transfer method. There is a sticky on this too. :)

Also your main tank must be fishless at least 8 weeks so the ich dies off.

Good advice!
And, be sure this isn't marine velvet (Google images of both); its often mistaken for ich, but kills much faster. When this battle is over, use a QT from now on with all new fish and avoid going through this again.

If you have a Fish Only tank then you could use one of the Quinine medications that will eradicate Ich.

Search: Quinine Sulfate; Choroquine Phosphate

You have two threads on the same subject, but the answer is the same as it was on May 7th. You need a HT?QT. There is absolutely no way to cure ich in a reef tank. If you don't take the time to learn about ich, nothing will help.
