Marine ich

Seriously does any one have a reef safe cure for ich. Years ago I used to use formaldehyde for ich in a reef tank and it worked. It stressed out the corals a little but did not kill them. Only enough was used to kill the ich. I also used it to treat marine velvet with success. The trick is to use the right amount. Unfortunately I don't remember the ratio. I hate watching my fish croak helplessly.

There is simply no such thing as a reef-safe ich cure. Its the Holy Grail of this disease section. Formalin never has been reef-safe. Ich Attack is nothing but a hot pepper sauce and ts totally worthless. It may be more than totally worthless; using it may temporally reduce the number if VISIBLE parasites. This encourages the user and just delays real treatment.

Cleaner shimp will clean parasites off fish and PE mysis or any mysis enriched with alot of garlic or selcon will clean it up fast. but dont qt. every tank has parasites in it.

Also Thera-A by Spectrum fish food works to build immune systems and fish love it.

Pure nonsense. Between this and the other thread your posting on; you have contradicted yourself.

Cleaner shrimp/shrimp cannot get at living under the fish's skin. Garlic will not do anything for an active ich infestation. Garlic does absolutely nothing to combat ich. There is very little evidence garlic does anything. It may help give fish a stronger immune system and help delay the inevitable ich invasion. Selcon is a good vitamin supplement, but has a long-term benefit and is no help with a new fish fighting ich. Its like using a multi-vitamin after you find out you have a STD. Garlic and vitamins will not clean up anything fast". ""Don't qt" is possibly the worst to give anyone, especially a newcomer.

Your last statement; "every tank has parasites in it." is absolutely ridiculous. I've had about 1000 gals of DT space for many years. They are all parasite free; at least free of any parasites that we know about and treat. All of the people who I know and would ask for advice have ich-free tanks. People who tolerate ich usually don't last long in the hobby. The people who make sure they don't have parasites, from day one stay around long enough to thoroughly enjoy the hobby. I've read many accounts from folks who went through the PITA work of getting rid of DT parasites and they're still enjoying the hobby. Folks who follow advice like yours will have their tanks and equipment on Craigslist sooner or later. In a home SW system, the ich always win.
