Marine Planted tank-Lets seem 'em

Tank8-22-07.jpg

Not a very good picture but you can see some of the color.

What's the green algae right below and in front of the gorgonian on top. I got some that just sprouted out of no where. I like the way it looks but it really seems to be going crazy. I'll have to yank some of it out. Would love to know what it is.

sweet. what's that red knobbly thing on the right side of the pic? (at the back of the feather duster?)

The green algae is suction cup caulerpa. The red knobby thing is a red gorgonian. It opens from 3-4 at night no matter what I do. I can't make it come out with feeding or anything. The yellow gorgonians open when there is food in the water. In the 3 months that I had them, I noticed a large amount of growth in the gorgonians. Each of the yellow has grown about 2 inches, while the slower growing red has grown a little more than a half of an inch.

What kind of lighting do you have on that tank. I had both of those types of gorgonians quite a while back and they came out quite a bit but I had a really hard time with algae build up on them and it eventually killed them off. You can only toothbrush it off so many times apparantly. When the polyps are out on the red ones they are absolutely beautiful. I'm thinking i might have better luck now that I seem to have conquered a good part of the algae problem and added more water circulation with a stronger power head. Any suggestions. How do you care for them?

I have one 55 watt actinic and one 55 watt 10,000k power compacts. They do get hair algae on them, but it comes off easily just by rubbing your fingers over the branches. My hermit crabs also eat alot of the algae off so they stay pretty clean.
