Hello all, as many of you know I ran four small reef tanks in my 8th grade science classroom last year. These ranged from 20-40 gallons. They were a huge success and the students learned a great deal. They cycled the tanks, maintained them, selected appropriate livestock, etc.
My principal has encouraged me to grow this project into a school wide endeavor by putting a 120-180 gallon reef tank on display in one of the public areas of our school. The tank would be covered, equipment cabinet locked, and there would be a security camera positioned directly over it, just to be safe.
Of course, moral support from the administration does not make this a reality when we don't have the funding to make it happen. I've been in talks with some tank manufacturers and believe I have a tank/stand/canopy lined up for next year, which is great. However, this still leaves me looking for all of the other equipment and of course livestock.
All public schools can accept tax donations that act as a tax credit on your state taxes. This is important that it is a credit because you get dollar for dollar back on your taxes (reduced on what you owe or back as a tax refund). This is far superior to a tax deduction where you can only reduce your taxable income.
Single individuals are capped at $200 and married couples filing jointly are $400. If you should so choose you can donate any amount up to the maximum.
The form with more information is here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/687231/MarineScienceTaxDonation.pdf
The bottom of the form can be detached and mailed in with a check or I can pick it up. You should check the box that says after school activities and hand write in Science Club on the form. Checks can be made out to Mountain Sky Jr. High School and mailed to:

As an educator there are always experiences I wish I could provide for my students, but resources are often the limiting factor. I appreciate the fact that you even took the time to read this post, let alone consider making a donation.
Thank you,
Jonathan
