marine tank setup

It's been about 12 years since I kept marine fish. I am setting up a 60 gal fish only tank and was going to use Live Rock, wet dry filter and a protein skimmer. Does this seem adequate? I have canister filters in the closet but thought using them would be overkill.

Are there any additives I should be putting in my tank monthly or weekly? What is the best water testing kit I should purchase?
Is there any other equipment I should use?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks you:)

Yeah ,that sounds fine.I use saltwater master test kit and I've been happy with the product. Also go to www. aquacorals.com at the bottom they have a link on "how to" setup on marine tanks.

There are many people probably running wet dry filters successfully, however it isn't necessary. Live rock acts as your biological filter and will outperform a wet dry filter if you have enough. Wet/dry filters are typically fed by the drain line. The filter then traps detritus. This can cause more nitrate production. You can use a filter sock connected to the drain line, changed frequently, as mechanical filtration. Protein skimmer to remove dissolved waste, and live rock as biological filter. You can then ditch the wet/dry.
